ముఖం చాటేసిన స్త్రీత్వాన్ని
కొప్పు చేస్తున్న వేళ్ళల్లో చూద్దామంటే
నిర్లక్ష్యంగా రింగులోడుతూ
బాహాటంగా నలుగుతూ
సిగరెట్టుగాడి ముఖం.....వెలిగిపోతూ!

వ్యసనానికీ లింగభేదమా అనుకున్నా
ముల్లుగాటు తప్పలేదు!!

"పోతన కవితా పాటవము"

1954 నాటి ఈ తాపీ ధర్మా రావు గారి చక్కని వ్యాసాన్ని అందించిన పొద్దు వారికి "చాలా" బిలేటెడ్ గా నెనర్లు.

కొంత ఆడతనముంటే?

అవున్నేనే.

"నాకీ పేదరికం మీద అసహ్యమేస్తోంది. నాకెంత కసిగా ఉందంటే జీవితంమీద అంత కసిగా ఉంది. సాధిస్తాను. నేను కొనాలనుకునే వస్తువుల మీద ప్రైస్ టాగ్ చూడాల్సిన అవసరం రాని స్థితికి వచ్చేంత వరకు విశ్రమించను." అని డైరీలో రాసుకున్నది నేనే.

సాధించాను.
నేనీ రోజు ఆక్సిస్ బాంక్లో బ్రాంచ్ మానేజర్ని. ఇంటికి ఆఫీస్ కారు వస్తుంది పొద్దున్న సాయంత్రం. ఇంకో రెండేళ్లలో నా స్వంత పనులకు కూడా వాడుకునే షాఫర్ డ్రివన్ కార్ కూడా వస్తుంది.

కానీ ఏమిటో వెలితీ.
కొనాలనుకున్న దాని ప్రైస్ టాగ్ చూడటం అనే అలవాటు మాత్రం పోలేదు. అవసరం ఉన్నా లేకున్నా.

ఏదో అసంతృప్తి
నాన్న ఆ రోజు నా డైరీలో చదివి అలా నా కుటుంబం మొత్తానికి నా కోరికల, ఆవేశాల గురించి చెప్పినప్పటినుంచీ మరీ పట్టుదల ఎక్కువై నేను అనుకున్నది సాధించటానికి ఎక్కువ కాలం పట్టలేదు.
ఈ విషయం గుర్తు పెట్టుకుని నా పుట్టినింటి వారు ప్రవర్తిస్తున్నట్టయితే నాకెప్పుడూ అనిపించలేదు.
కాని లోపల ఒకటి పెట్టుకుని బయటకు ఇంకోలా ప్రవర్తించే వారున్టారని నాకు తెలుసుగా.

పైగా వీడొకడు.
అన్నయకస్సలు లోకం తీరు తెలీదు.
లేకుంటే ప్రమోషన్ వచ్చిందన్న సంతోషంలో ఉన్న వారిని పట్టుకుని, పైగా ఇంకో రెండు మూడేళ్ళలో వీపీ లెవల్కు వెళ్ళిపోతాను అని సంతోషపడుతున్న మనిషిని పట్టుకుని "కెరీర్ గ్రాఫ్లో ప్లాట్యూ ఏదన్నా ఎప్పుడన్నా పెట్టుకునే ఆలోచన ఉందా" అని ఎవడన్నా అడుగుతాడా.
మనసు చివుక్కుమన్న మాట నిజం.

నిజమే.
తన మనసు చివుక్కుమనే ఉంటుంది.

కాని తప్పదు.
దగ్గరివారు అనుకున్నప్పుడు వారు తప్పటడుగులు వేస్తున్నారు అనుకుంటే కనీసం అది తప్పటడుగు అని చెప్పే దగ్గరితనం కూడా లేని నేటి బీరకాయ బంధం నేను సహించను.
ప్రేయసైనా, చెల్లయినా.

అమ్మ చెప్పినప్పుడు అర్థం కాలేదు.
తిరిగోచ్చేసే ఒక రోజు ముందు అమ్మ ఫోన్లో "వాడిని చితకబాది తీసుకుపోయింది.అమ్మా ఇవాళ రాత్రి అమ్మమ్మా వాళ్ళ ఇంట్లో ఉండిపోతానే అని కొడుకంటే అంటే సరేరా అని మధ్యాహ్నం పర్మిషన్ ఇచ్చిన తను రాత్రి తొమ్మిదికి ఇంటికి వచ్చి వాడు ఇంటికి రానంటే చావబాది తీసుకుపోయింది. ఇంతే idee అనకముందే నా ఆఫీస్ వారి ముందు నా పరువు తీస్తావా అంటుంది. బయట ఆఫీస్ కార్ వాడు వెయిట్ చేస్తున్నాడని" అంటూ ఏడ్చేసిన అమ్మను "పోన్లేవే దానికి ఆఫేస్లో ఏం బాధలున్నాయో ఎవరికి తెలుసు. పైగా తెలుసుగా దానికి వాడంటే పంచ ప్రాణాలు ఒక్కడే కొడుకుగా మరి. కాని ఆఫీస్లో పెరుగుతున్న జీతంతో బాటు పెరుగుతున్న భాద్యతలు, దాంతో ఇంటికని తరుగుతున్న సమయం దానిలో రేపే గిల్టీ ఫీలింగ్ శారీరిక శ్రమతో కలిసి ఇలా ఫ్రస్టేశన్గా  బయటపడుతుంది " అంటూ నా తెలివితేటలూ చూపెట్టానే కాని అమ్మను అర్థం చేసుకోలేకపోయాను.

అనుభవమైతే కాని అర్థం చేసుకోలేకపోవటం అన్నది ఇంకెన్నేళ్ళు పడుతుందో పోగొట్టుకోటానికి.
ఇంటికి వచ్చిన మూడో రోజునుంచే వాడి దసరా సెలవులు.

"ఎప్పుడు చూసినా అలా సోఫా మీద అతుక్కుపోతాడు టీవీ చూస్తూ" అంటూ అమ్మ విసుక్కుంటున్న మేనల్లుడిని "ఉద్దరిద్దామని" వాడితో చర్చేట్టాను.

"ఎరా కన్నా నీకెవరూ ఫ్రెండ్స్ లేరా?"
"ఎందుకు లేరూ శ్రీనివాస్ గాడింటికి రోజూ వెళ్తున్నానుగా" బెన్ టెన్ చూస్తూ సమాధానం.
"ఏం చేస్తావు వాళ్ళింట్లో రోజూ?"
"వీడియో గేమ్స్ ఆడుకున్టాము" నా వైపు చూస్తూ ఈసారి.
"రోజూ వాడింటికి వెళ్తే వాళ్ళేమన్నా అనుకుంటారు కదరా"
"నువ్వేమో ఇలా అంటావు అమ్మేమో ఆఫీస్ వెళుతూ శ్రీను గాడింటికి వెళ్లి ఆడుకో అంటుంది" రిపార్టీ
"వాళ్ళింట్లో వీడియో గేమ్స్, మనింట్లో టీవీ, కంప్యూటర్ గేమ్స్ ....ఇవేనా ఎప్పుడూ? బయట ఆడుకోవచ్చుగా ఏదయినా!"
"ఎవరితో ఆడుకునేదీ......."
"నీకిన్కెవరూ ఫ్రెండ్స్ లేరా?"
"ఎందుకు లేరూ? వెనకాల వీధిలో ఉన్నారు ఫ్రెండ్స్. ఎంచక్కా బయట ఆడుకుంటారు క్రికెట్. కాని హుకుం వేసింది మహా తల్లి "అమ్మా వాడిని అక్కడకు పంపకే వెళ్ళే దారిలో కుక్కలుంటాయి" అనింది నీ చెల్లెలు." అమ్మ వంటింట్లోంచి ఫిర్యాదు.

ఈ వారమయితే నేను తీసుకెళ్ళి దింపగలను. మరా తరవాత?

ఎంత ఆలోచించినా, చర్చించినా సమాధానం దొరకలా.

పరిష్కారం అమ్మమ్మా తాతయ్యా, మామయ్యల దగ్గర ఎలా దొరుకుతుంది?

మారుతున్న కాలంతో వస్తున్న కెరీర్ వుమెన్ తెచ్చే జీతం తీసుకునే ఔదార్యం వచ్చినా వాళ్ళతో కుటుంబంలోని ఇంటి పనులను పంచుకోగలిగినంత మార్పు ఇంకా రాని భర్తలు, ఎంత ధనమిస్తుందో అంతకంత సమయాన్ని స్థన్యం చేసుకు   పీల్చేసే ఉద్యోగాలు మొదటి ఇద్దరు సంతానమయితే అసలయిన ఒక్క నలుసేగా ఇక మిగిలేది "ఇద్దరు ముద్దు, ముగ్గురు హద్దు అటుపై వద్దు" అన్న దాన్ని తూ చా తప్పనివ్వని నేటి మహిళలకు. ఉద్యోగం, సంసారం రెంటినీ సాధిస్తున్న నవ్య సవ్యసాచులకు.

ఏడుపొస్తోంది.

పోయినసారి మామయ్యా వచ్చినప్పుడు అమ్మ "మామయ్యను ఇంకోసారి గిఫ్త్స్ అడగకు నాన్నా. ఇస్తే తీసుకో కానీ ప్రతీసారి అడగకు సరేనా" అని చెప్పింది.
అమ్మ చెప్పింది కదా అని మామయ్యా అక్కడ నుంచి వస్తుంటే "నాకేం వద్దు మామయ్యా చాక్లెట్ కూడా" అన్నాను
అమ్మ చెప్పినట్లే చేసాను కదా.
కాని మామయ్యకేలా తెలిసిందో అమ్మ చెప్పినట్లు.
అమ్మమ్మతో "చూడవే మొన్న నేను వాడికేమీ తేలేదు వాడు అడిగాడు అని బాధపడుతూ అడిగితె అది వీడికి చెప్పినట్టుంది అడగొద్దని" అనేసాడు.
పోన్లే అమ్మమ్మ మంచిది "ఏం చెప్పాలో చెప్పద్దో వాడికెలా తెలుస్తుంది. ఇంకా "పెద్దవలేదు" కదా " అని సపోర్ట్ చేసింది.

ఈసారి చూడు
పుటుక్కుమని "అమ్మ శ్రీనీ గాడితో ఆడుకోమంటుంది" అనేసాను నోరుజారి.
దానికి మామయ్యా బాధపడుతూ నాకెలా టైం పాస్ అవ్వాలా అంటూ ప్లాన్స్ చేస్తున్నాడు.
ఈ సంగతి అమ్మకు తెలిసిందో ఇంకేమన్నా ఉందా?

అసలే మామయ్యా అమ్మమ్మను తీసుకుని వెళ్ళిపోతున్నాడు అని బాధపడుతుంటే అమ్మేమో నిన్న నాన్నతో "అమ్మ వాళ్ళు వెళిపోతే వీడిని బోర్డింగ్ స్కూళ్ళలో చేర్పిద్దామా" అనటం విన్నాను. ఇప్పుడు మామయ్య గనక వెళ్లి అమ్మతో మీ వాడికి బోర్ కొడుతోంది ఏం చేద్దాం అన్నాడనుకో........

ఏడుపొస్తోంది.















Is it worth?

Are the increased spending power, growth rates, economic power, consumer and credit economies, feminisms, individualism etc etc etc which are thirsting for and fueling the female employability worth the happyness of seeing your kids grow, playign with them and shaping their futures?

The first man I know to give up his lucrative locum work to go part time so that "I can be with my kids"
The first husband I know who does not mind saying "Yes I dont mind being a house-man and spending time with kids. Let her get a job worth the minimum needed to run the house and I will give up my job."

Non-Beleivers must be killed.

Was feeling alittle bit queasy about writing this in such a communally tense time.

But If we do not rise the discussions ABOUT ISSUES WHICH MATTER, when given chance by people within the system themselves (Thank you Justice khan) in such a peacefull atmosphere as this, then I do not know if we have any hope left for humans. I refuse to be bogged down by such pessimism and hence here I go.................



Had a recent discussion with two of my muslim colleagues here in UK. One belongs to Ahmadiya sect and suffers from the paradox of having to prove to his brethren muslims that hsi sect IS a muslim sect as well.

When asked what was the reason why the koran is supposed to say "Non beleivers must be killed", the answer was a rhetorical "It is taken out of context". (Remembered Tetageeti Murali garu's blog postings some year or two ago and the argument I had with him).

When pressed further the explanationw as that it was in only self defense that this is talked about. Ok a palatable flavour to it, though could not get my head around "Non beleiver" part of this as why you should point out only non believers as the enemy or is it that only the non beleivers are worth of death punishment? Who knows...did not want to ruffle feathers too much and so asked something else.

When asked how come every religion is changing but Koran is not changing or evolving with time, the answer was "Why change something that's Perfect in everything." When this come from supposedly perfect rational and intelligently superior beings like doctors, I start to feel again that there may be some grain of truth in the saying that Education does not add to the samskara or in this case, rational thinking.

When asked how come that any man made system is perfect, the answer was that Islam recognises every religion and its messiahs in this world like Budda, jesus etc. Apparently, all the religions are part of one evolutionary line and with each step, there was further enlightenement or refinement of the religion i.e chirsitianity was more refined that Jewism, Jewism was more refined than Buddism, Buddsim was more refined than Hinduism etc so the oldest religion is the basicest of the religous models, whatever that might have been. Also, the beleif is that Islam was the final outcome of this religious evolution, that Prophet Mohammed was the last messaiah and hence his word and Islam are "Perfect" and hence "why change the perfect system". As proof I was given so many examples of how women are protected in the koran tenets, that islam was the first religion to give voting rights to woman etc.

Please do not doubt yourself if my retelling of the conversation smacks of incredulity, it is deliberate. That is how I felt when I was hearing this male and female highly educated muslim doctor colleagues of mine talk about religion.

In the middle of this conversation was a new statement that rankled me even further "We beleive there is only one god........." fair enough I was thinking to myself, but alas too soon apparently, ".......and  we beleive that there is only one god for you, me and everybody else".

Could not help but ask this colleagues of mine "how can you beleive that FOR ALL, INCLUDING ME there is only one god and that is your god?".

Pat came the answer "That is our beleif, you may call him ram, we may call him allah but the God is only one." Umm.... this seems to be a little bit better I thought, "oh so you feel that I may call your God by the name Ram?". Came the reply "you may but there is only one god".

"So, you dont aggree with Polytheism" I wanted to ask but alas my mandatory half an hour break without pay was long gone and my stupid consceince was saying that I was wasting the hosptial money on things that did not matter to them. So came away with questions unanswered like

"How can anyone beleive that a man made system is perfect, after almost two thousand years of life moving on?"

"How can one Justify a system without trying to change it, if it gives chance for misinterpretation by both within the system (Jihadists) and outside it (Non beleivers)? let it be the Islam with its teachings of Kill the Non Beleivers (Taken entirely out of context) or Hindusim which says some people are born out of foot and some are born out of Heads. How can we be so irrational as human beings that we do not think  when it comes to faith?"

"If you do not change with times but think being stuck in a time capsule is the Perfect system then why blame others when you get profiled and shunned by others?"

Thanks to Justice Khan for inspiring me to put my thoughts out in writing when he writes in his epilogue of the short 285 page order on the Ayodhya issue: “Muslims must also ponder that at present the entire world wants to know the exact teachings of Islam in respect of relationship of Muslims with others.”
